Kicking this off with a bit of a celebration. Jon & I have been at the podcast for 3 years! February 6, 2018, we released Episode 0 where we shared our vision for the podcast. Thank you to all of our super fans, our regular listeners and our some time listeners! What is your favorite episode?
Bamboo has been hosting virtual events for longer than Covid has been around and they do a great job with them! Last fall, they had some great speakers (including our friend Laura Mazzullo). If you aren’t already signed up, get signed up! Their sessions are available online & for free!
Micole Garetti has a great post on some ideas for creating gender equity in your workplace. We have a long way to go, and a lot of inherent and systematic bias to work around that exists in the workplace. Bias in and of itself isn’t a bad thing, but we all need to be aware of what our biases are so we can learn to work to overcome them in our hiring and employment processes.
Rachel Cupples has some great advice for recruiters on what to not say to candidates, based on her recent job seeker experience, in her recent post “Words Matter.” If you lead a group of recruiters, share this with them! If you are a recruiter, read & share with your team.
Finally, a huge thank you to Paul Lalonde for giving me the kick I needed to pick up a book in the mornings. Currently, I’m working my way through 2 books:
- Me and White Supremacy by Layla F Saad. It hasn’t been easy to work through this book, but I am reading and journaling as prompted by the book during my mornings. Now that I’m not commuting, it’s been a great way to spend an early morning quiet hour.
- Betting on You by Laurie Ruettimann. This has been my weekend reading. I’m the early riser in the house, so the 2-3 hours I have alone on the weekends, it’s been nice to dedicate some of that time to reading.
